About Me
I make art because it is emotionally and intellectually satisfying.  When I am starting a painting, I search for colors and a subject that communicates a feeling.  I want my viewers to feel something when they see it.  My paintings have been described as serene, meditative and warm.
I paint with acrylics on canvas or board.  My choice of support depends on the subject and size of the painting.  Most of the time I use canvas because it is easier for me to carry and hang but when I need to control the paint precisely, board is better.  Canvas has a texture that can distort an edge.  I like to build the painting with thin layers to create more depth and complexity.  I mix my colours and rarely use paint straight out of the tube.  This year I began small studies using oils.
Although primarily self-taught, I have studied at the University of Victoria, Camosun College and the Vancouver Island School of Art.  I believe that you just have to put the hours in to learn.
